Marangu Route Group Join Climb – The Marangu route, also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, is the oldest, most well-established route on Kilimanjaro. This is the only route that offers sleeping huts in dormitory-style, Accommodation is in shared huts with bunk beds and the ascent is via Gilman’s point on the rim of the Kibo Volcano. This route descends the same way it ascends.

Arrive In Tanzania

Meet anytime at Kilimanjaro International Airport by a staff of Kilipeak Adventure driven to Arusha at Jabulani Private Villa or Marangu for accommodation
Our Kilimanjaro Expert will gather in the hotel for a pre-climb briefing and an equipment check.
Dinner and overnight at Arusha or Marangu/ Moshi:

Day 1: Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut: | Rainforest

Elevation: 1830m/6000ft to 2740m/9000ft

We depart from Hotel to the National Park gate for the necessary formalities at the gate before beginning our trek. The hiking trail begins by ascending a beautiful, tropical rain forest. At the upper edge of the forest line, we have the opportunity to see blue colobus monkeys. later afternoon we reach the first camp at Mandara for dinner and overnight end of day one Marangu Route Group Join Climb.
Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut: 4-5 hours walking.

Day 2: Mandara Huts – Horombo Huts: | Mooreland

Elevation: 2740m/9000ft to 3690m/12,100ft

The first part of the walk is a steep ascent through the forest, but the path soon opens out into moorland, and, in clear weather, there are great views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
We arrive at Horombo Hut mid-afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery around the camp.
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut: 4-6 hours walking.

Day 3: Horombo Huts – Kibo Huts: | Semi-Desert

Elevation: 3690m/12,100ft to 4695m/15,400ft

We climb very gradually towards the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Walking will be taken at a slow pace until we reach Kibo Hut (4,700m), where we will spend the night in a comfortable hut.
The remainder of the day is spent relaxing in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night.
Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut; 4-6 hours walking.

Day 4: Kibo Huts – Summit – Horombo Huts: | Glaciers, Snow Capped Summit

Elevation: 4695m/15,400ft to 5895m/19,340ft
Descent to 3690m/12,100ft

Wake up before midnight in the cover of darkness. We begin a steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to the rim of the main crater, Gillman’s 5,685 m. We will rest there for a few minutes to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling good can continue slowly to make the three-hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru peak 5,895 m. which is the highest point in Africa. After a few minutes to appreciate your accomplishment we descend to Kiko Hut is amazingly fast, and we stop at Kibo Hut for some refreshment, we continue to descend to reach Horrombo Hut.
Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut: 13-15 hours walking.

Day 5: Horombo Huts – Marangu Gate: / Rainforest

Elevation: 3690m/12,100 to 1830m/6000ft

The descending will pass Mandara hut to Marangu National Park, successful climbers will receive their summit certificates. From here you will be transferred to the hotel overnight.
Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. (6-7 hours of walking).
Dinner and overnight at Arusha or Marangu evening will be celebration party and certificate.

– Travel insurance which covers Medical Evacuation up to 6,000 Meters, above sea level. It is very important your clients ask the travel insurance companies to include this in their final prices.

Is the same insurance required for evacuation on Mount Meru?
– If clients are climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and they have proper insurance coverage up to 6000m then they will also be covered on Mt Meru.

What do I do if my client doesn’t have this kind of insurance?
– Ask the client to contact their Travel Insurance company to ensure they will have Medical Evacuation up to 6000m.

Why Standard insurance packages do not cover high altitude trekking?

The risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) increases above 2800 Meters, as do the costs of emergency medical services and evacuation.

Itinerary day by day

Day 1: Arrive In Tanzania:

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) meet Kilipeak Adventure staff drive you to Arusha for accommodation at Ilboru Safari Lodge, which is a beautiful Hotel located on the lower slopes of Mount Meru and is a perfect place to prepare you 12 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking and Adventure Safari
We will gather at the hotel for a pre-climb briefing and Safari.
Dinner and overnight at Ilboru Safari Lodge or Similar: Bed, Dinner, and Breakfast.

Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Hut (Mount Kilimanjaro Climb)

After breakfast we drive to Machame gate, the climb starts from Machame gate (1830m), we walk through the lush lower slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Slowly gaining altitude while enjoying the diverse flora and fauna of the rain forest, you will arrive at the first Machame Hut, situated at 3000m above sea level
If it is a clear day we may get our first closer look at the glaciated dome of Kibo if the evening clouds permit.
Machame Gate to Machame Hut (3,000 m): 6-7 hours walking.

Day 3: Machame Hut to Shira Camp (Mount Kilimanjaro Climb)

A shorter day climbing up a steep ridge to reach a small semicircular cliff known as a Picnic site, and continue up a gentler ascent through the lower alpine moorland, which is known for beautiful wild alpine flowers. The most spectacular views of the Kibo peak can be seen from Shira Camp.
Machame Hut to Shira Camp (3,840m); 4-6 hours walking.

Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Valley (Mount Kilimanjaro Climb)

Today we walk on a gentle ascent and panoramic views. We traverse the southwest side of Kilimanjaro, passing underneath the Lava Tower and the final section of the Western Breach and after hot lunch the bottom of the Lava Tower (4,600 m.) we descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco valley (3,900 m.).
Shira Camp to Barranco valley (3,900 m.): 5-7 hours walking.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp (Mount Kilimanjaro Climb)

A steep climb up the eastern wall leads us just below the Heim Glacier, where we may have some spectacular views of Kilimanjaro. We then take a steep exit up the Great Barranco Wall, which divides us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo, the trail continues down into the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley. After a short break for a hot lunch, we take a steep climb out of Karanga, and an easy path on compacted scree with wide views through this empty and dry landscape up to Barafu Camp. The two peaks Kibo and Mawenzi can be seen from Barafu Camp. After a hot lunch at the Camp, The remainder of the day is spent resting as we prepare for the final ascent before an early night summit walk.
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp (4,600 m): 7-9 hours walking.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp (Mount Kilimanjaro Climb)

Wake up before midnight in the cover of darkness. We begin a steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to the rim of the main crater, Stella Point, at 5,735m. We will rest there for a few minutes to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling good can continue slowly to make the two-hour round trip from here along the crater rim to the main peak (5,895 m), which is the highest point in Africa. After a few minutes to appreciate your accomplishment we descend to Barafu is amazingly fast, and we stop at Barafu Camp for some refreshment, we continue to descend to reach Mweka Camp.
Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp (3100 m): 13-15 hours walking.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (End Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb)

A gentle walk takes us down through the rainforest to Mweka gate successful climbers will receive their summit certificates. After lunch, we drive back to Arusha Safari Lodge.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate: 3-5 hours walking.
Dinner and overnight at Ilboru Safari Lodge: Bed, Dinner, and Breakfast.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater. ( Adventure Safari)

Starting early to Ngorongoro, After registration at the gate we will drive around the crater rim then we will descend 2000 feet (over 600 meters) to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater for your crater tour. Here you will explore the forest areas inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area, where we may see flamingos. We will also visit the open savannah where the lions hunt. Picnic lunch will be served in the crater. In the afternoon we make we proceed to Serengeti with en-route game viewing alongside the way.
Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp: Bed, dinner, breakfast, and lunch.

Day 9: Serengeti National Park. (Adventure Safari)

After breakfast, we start our game drive with a picnic lunch into the Serengeti itself and the rest of the day is spent game viewing in the vast plains that are broken only by stands of acacia trees and the occasional kopje. In December, January and February we will normally meet the migration with large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle. There are always plenty of resident animals, such as giraffes, buffalo, and elephants, and many large predators such as lions, cheetah, and leopards. We return to our special tented camp for the night.
Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp: Bed, dinner, breakfast, and lunch.

Day 10: Full Day Serengeti National Park. (Adventure Safari)

We have another full day in this wonderful park, rising early to make the most of our time. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations for the time of year; we can spend time at the Hippo pool watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water happily living alongside the crocodiles, watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest, sometimes by zebras, which travel with the wildebeest. We journey from the wide-open plains to the kopjes: these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals and from the top, we can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse and interesting landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, we will hopefully see all of the plain games; elephants, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions and if you are lucky the elusive leopard and cheetah, as well as huge amounts of the interesting birdlife, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich. We return to our special tented camp for the night.
Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp: Bed, dinner, breakfast, and lunch.

Day 11: Lake Manyara National Park. (Adventure Safari)

We depart from your lodge in Karatu and proceed to Lake Manyara National Park. Although small in size, this park is one of the most diverse reserves in the country. Lake Manyara covers two-thirds of the park. At the backdrop is the wall of the Great Rift Valley, before which lies the groundwater forest, areas of open grassland near the lake foreshore, and the Soda Lake. We enjoy a picnic lunch in this area, which consists of open grassy areas, hot springs, dense woodlands, and steep mountainsides. Lake Manyara National Park is a birding paradise that has more than 350 species of bird. The park is also famed for its unique and elusive tree-climbing lions.
In the afternoon we drive back to Ilboru Safari Lodge

Day 12: Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Depending on your flight schedule and departure point you will be transferred to the airport to connect your flight for further travel.
