Lenana is the third peak of Mt Kenya, at an altitude of 4985 meters, this is not a technical climb, but a hike anyone with a reasonable level of fitness should be more than capable of completing provided they approach it in a sensible manner. The Chogoria route is on the east side of the mountain and it’s the least used.
Pick up from the hotel at around 0800hrs, lunch at Isaac Walton Hotel, Drive to our first camp at Chogoria forest reserve at our private camp which is 6000ft where we will an hour acclimatization walk then back for dinner.
After breakfast and sorting of porters loads we set off up the mountain through the equatorial rain forest at a nice and easy pace. The forest inhabits various wild animals like the elephant, buffalos, some birds and Columbus monkeys. At about 8000ft we will have a picnic lunch then proceed through the bamboo forest where we check in at the Mount Kenya National park (Chogoria gate) at a special camp at the edge of the moorlands which is 10000ft.
Breakfast and we leave through the glades of montane forest to our next camp which is at the shores of Lake Ellis, 11800ft in time for lunch. Afternoon walk to the scenic views of Mugi Hills and Giant Billiards Table. Overnight at Lake Ellis Camp.
After breakfast we leave for a long day walk through the eastern moorland along the Nthi Gorge where we will break shortly for a picnic lunch with a scenic view of (The Temple) and Lake Michealson. We will then walk through the great gorge to our next camp at Tarn Hut,14500ft
Pre dawn breakfast then leave for the summit into the Alpine Zone where we view the Simba Tarn and Harris tarn on our way to Point Lenana which is 16355ft, the third highest peak, and down through the Austrian Hut for snacks. We proceed to Mackinder’s camp 13000ft for lunch, Dinner and overnight.
Early breakfast then go down the vertical blog and the rain forest where we will take our vehicles from the MET station, Lunch then drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast then drive to OLPEJETA for a game drive where we get the see the Rhinos and Chimpanzees and other animals. Picnic lunch and drive back to hotel.
Breakfast and drive to Nanyuki airstrip to catch a flight to the Maasai Mara the world’s renowned park for the wildlife paradise and the 8th wonder, (The migration of wildebeest), lunch and afternoon game drive in the park, Dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 9 & 10
Early breakfast, morning drive and back to camp for lunch. Afternoon game drive then dinner and overnight at camp.
Breakfast, game drive enroute to the airstrip to catch our flight to Nairobi. Dayroom and dinner then departure.
